GBG Working Groups

Various Groups and Working Groups comprised of GBG Members have been established to take forward the GBG’s strategic aims. GBG Members can participate in any of the Groups that they have an interest in or a stake in.

  • GBG Members Group: All GBG Members meet quarterly for updates and discussion. It is a forum to raise industry issues and challenges which can then be taken forward in an appropriate GBG Group.

  • GBG Machines Group: Specifically set up to deal with the ever increasing cross-sector gaming machines agenda, the Machines Group has representation from a companies and businesses with machines either as their core product or as a key part of their business plan.
  • Linking into the Machines Group, the GBG Technical Working Group leads the way in identifying and developing technical solutions to current and future challenges.
  • GBG Land Based Responsible Gambling Group: Focuses on addressing the negative perceptions and improving the reputation of land based licensed gambling premises and on enhancing the social responsibility obligations that the gambling industry has to deliver in order to better protect the vulnerable.

  • GBG Licensing Group: A dedicated licensing lawyer and in house counsel forum to look at the nitty gritty of licensing regulation and practice

  • GBG Risk, Safety & Security Group: Focuses on sharing intel and good practice to keep crime out of gambling premises and ensure customers, staff and assets are kept safe.

  • GBG Sector Specific Groups:  GBG has established several forums for more focused dialogue and sharing of best practices specific to the needs of:

    • MSAs – Although Motorway Service Areas (MSAs) are classified as AGCs in gambling legislation, they have characteristics that are different and distinct to those of high street AGCs
    • LBOs – Licensed Betting Offices (LBOs) with their ‘over the counter’ and self-service betting terminal products have slightly different needs and requirements to support their operations and compliance.
    • Pub Retailers – The gaming entitlement in a pub is by virtue of its alcohol licence or appropriate permit from the local licensing authority (not the Gambling Commission). The regulation and operation of gaming machines in pubs is subsequently different to other forms of land-based gambling.

We work with and support other trade bodies where mutually beneficial and appropriate.
